Why Art?

photo 07.jpg   photo fri001_zps023145fd.jpg ever since i could remember i have been intrigued with the world of creativity. my mother is one of the most creative human being i know. but i am biased. she taught us from a young age to act the way we liked, not the way we thought we should act. so growing up we didn't listen to brittney spears, or any boy bands, we grew up to Eminem, tupac, incubus, nirvana, guns and roses, bikini kill, and a bunch of bands kids weren't allowed to listen to. now before you go judging, my mom is a great parent. anyways i remember in school i always had a problem with spelling, and reading, but that didn't stop me from writing. i could write and put my thoughts down on paper better then sharing them out loud. i'm still that way.
i new as a got older i was different from the rest of my cousins, and friends, and didn't understand why. Everyone seen art as a way to get to nowhere land fast.so i stop saying i wanted to be an artist, and said i wanted to be a doctor. it was a lie because i hated everything about doctors, but i didn't want to feel dumb about wanting to be an artist.
photo 2012-10-27_17-59-07_181.jpg in high school i went on home studies and had a lot of free time, so i did what every person would do. Make things. i fell in love with the fulfillment of making something all on my own. i thought i was awesome and not weird for the first time in a long time. and one day well online i bumped into an amazing thing called blogging. so now i found this community that endorsed making things, and fashion, and just being awesome.
but quickly i fell into that trap where i had to fit into the "blogger" mold. i would get really sad and not feel worthy, but i forgot what started it in the first place. the fact that i wanted to be in the community where people loved creating all day long. to not feel dumb because i feel better writing things out then saying them, or taking pictures to capture a moment, or doodling because that is how i see things.

about a year ago i moved out of my parents house and moved to the city, and started a bible internship. the internship is very demanding, with little time to get ready or things like that. so the other day i was looking my self in the mirror and i got a little scared because i was dressed so boring and with no makeup. that is not like me. so i started thing why that happened? well because i have been on my own i thought i had to grow up and what grown up wears characters on their clothes, and puts on makeup like a drag queen?
but then i realized a lot of artist and creative people do. just because i am an adult does not mean i have to dress like i am dead.
this is when i started blogging again, because i need an outlet to love art again. in my clothes, makeup, d.i.ys, poems, stories, doodles, and everything.
So why art?
Because i can express myself without words, codes, or even a gesture. you can listen to a playlist and know how i am feeling, see a picture and know what i am saying, and read and know what i am saying.
art is not just something fancy people have in there home, it is something a kid can hold on to when the world is about to fall right on top of them.

chopped hair and conversation

hair

So i finally went though what i have wanted to do for months. I cut all my dead weight i called hair, and i love it. It has taken a bit to get used to it since i never had short hair. But in my two weeks of living with it i have not regretted it.

Another new thing is the fact that i'm kinda falling in love with college. It might sound a bit dumb or weird, but it has grown on me. And since i hated it from the begging its a good thing. That does not mean i am going to go out and join a fraternity or i go to college parties( which by the way there is nothing wrong with that), but it has opened me to a whole lot of other new things. I have been getting into literature and different art form, such as clay, writing, reading and so much more on my free time. Its so funny because in the begging of my school year i was upset that my mom was making me go to city college and not to an art school that i had been wanting to go for years. But as i look back now these are going to be my experiences that are going to make me later. So since my last class period (about 2 hours ago) i have decided that i would take every experience on hand and not let them slip away because it is not my vision of how it should be. And that for me is a huge deal. I always want to have this a certain way or have the results really fast.

okay i am done ranting.

Back to the Basics

sunset

I have had this blog for about a year going on two but I never really did anything with it because I was never satisfied with it or who I was.  I tried so hard to be a "blogger" and lost my motives and inspiration as for why I started blogging.

My reason for starting Flies in a Peach Can was because I was on home-studies and I wanted to connect with creative people like me. I wanted to create things and share. Most of all it was going to be a place were I could be myself and not feel weird.

In the end I did. Not because I was weird and super different but because I was trying to do thing like most people and felt like I had to, to get friends.  I've learned that we are all different, and it might be in the smallest way but when we try to do the same things as other people we began to sell ourselves short. And I am really tired of doing that.

My passion for who I am and what I love doing is back and really seeing that its okay to be myself. I don't want to crave people gawwing at my stuff or who I am. I just want to live an amazing and beautiful life, throw the mistakes and doubts and always stay myself.

This weekend marked a great revelation in my life, and it had me think quite a bit. On Sunday I try to delete my previous post because I wanted to start "new" with a clean slate and all that jazz. A few post into it I stopped myself feeling as though I was erasing a piece of me. It sound really lame, but this thing that I had put my blood, sweat and tears into hurt when I tried to start new and not look back at my mistakes. I then start thinking my mistakes show me what I have become despite all the craziness. So here I am going back to the basics and loving every minute of my unscheduled life!

1. morning window view
2. college stuff.... it has been so crazy these past few weeks since starting, it kind of feels like a dream
3. dinner madness
4. organizing
5. fuzzy bunny
6. a dancing girl
7. me and my sissy brianna on the road
8. my collection of erasers over the years
9. trying to decorate and be a photograph.... fail

These past few weeks have been so crazy, fun and just have been a bit to get use to.I kinda feels like a dream because i'm starting to step in to things that I have thought about forever. Its funny how in just moments things can change and you can be a whole new person.  My mindset that I had on my self has shifted from "why can't you be like them" to "I am going to walk out my dream and stop focusing on other people" and " I am capable of doing this." I might not mean much to you, but that is what I have struggled for a long time. Its really empowering!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Responsibility is over Rated!

eyes

Today was my first day of COLLEGE! Yes I am now a college student and I am kind of excited. I am just going to my city college, but none the less the responsibility of being an adult is making me giddy. It might sound really naive of me, but pretty much all of my life things were done for me and many decisions were made for me. I'm not complaining because I do appreciate what every one has done for me, but I am also super excited to see what putting my trust in God and my hands will bring to life.

The past few months I have been getting more and more responsibility and I am starting to feel like an adult. Iv'e always kind of been responsible, helping around the house, being a mini adult and what not but it felt like the last couple of years I had been relying on my mom and other people to do and make the adult decisions. Since I started home studies I found myself being afraid of failing or the thought of failing.  I would also quite things because I would look at them as a job or a chore. So my solution was to quite before I could fail, or stop my hobby because it wasn't fun anymore. My thinking wasn't full proof but you know teenagers *wink.  These past two years have been a bit hard with me always crushing my own dreams because I was running from failure. So I decided to stop running and live out my dreams, To really love life and stop worrying about what might bust, crack or brake as long as I am living out my life.

I have been try to take the responsibility a few at a time so I don't go crazy and want to quite. I started looking at my hobbies again with a great deal of happiness.  I have been blogging thing that I love and that are me, instead of blogging things that are in even though I don't like them.  I started looking at my make up and trying new things because before I felt I had to have nature make up because it was in. I also started crafting just for the fun of it.  I also started making stuff for my shop that I like and not just for sales. And the best  is not looking at my life as "it could be better" or "I wish I had her life" but really enjoying what I have and making the most of it. Life is so beautiful but it depend on what side you look at it from.

Also this morning I found it so funny when I went in to my class and I was so giddy to be there, but as I looked around everyone looked so dead and miserable. I think three years of home studies helped me out in that way.
Have a lovely day.
